River of Stars by Guy Gavriel Kay

Got maybe a quarter of the way through and bailed.   Fantasy set in China, it tries really hard and the writing was actually not bad but I just. couldn't. do it.  Sorry.  If someone has read this and loved it I'd be happy to take a recommendation that its worth pursuing...otherwise, not much to say.
